Fresh Eggs and Freedom: Zoning Change Moves Forward in Pocono Township

July 23, 2025

A step toward property rights and self-sufficiency

Monday night, July 21, 2025, marked another important step forward for Pocono Township. Working alongside the board, I was proud to support a motion that reflects the voices and values of our residents. After years of consistent requests from the community, we have officially moved to advertise zoning amendments that will allow residents to raise chickens on their own property for farm-fresh eggs.

This has been one of the most common issues brought to our attention. For many families, the ability to gather fresh eggs from their own backyard is about more than convenience. It is about healthier living, sustainability, and the right to make use of their own land.

The updated regulations strike a fair balance between personal freedom and community respect. While roosters will still be prohibited to maintain peace and quiet in our neighborhoods, residents will finally be able to enjoy the simple benefits of backyard hens.

As your commissioner, I believe in less government interference, not more. Supporting this change was a clear choice. When residents speak, I listen. And when government gets in the way of common-sense living, I act.

Thank you to everyone who raised their voice on this issue. Your input helped move this forward. I’ll continue to fight for your right to enjoy your property and your life here in Pocono Township.
